Where there any recalls on the Baby Trend Flex-Loc infant car seat?
The one I have was manufactured August 8, 2007, model number 6342. I got it from my friend after her 7 month old exceeded the weight limit. And it's the only carseat I have that is 6 inches or less between the lowest slot and seat. Does anyone know if there was ever a recall?
Baby Trend has had a recall, but it was on the LATCH-Loc, I don't think on the Flex-Loc. But you can go here to check if your model was affected: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/results.cfm?rcl_id=08C008000&searchtype=quicksearch&summary=true&refurl=rss
I glanced at it and it didn't look like yours was affected. Anytime you use a used car seat, make sure:
1)it has never been in any wreck
2)it has all the original pieces, including manual
3)it has never been dropped, which means never been checked as luggage at the airport, either, since this frequently happens when checked or gate checked .
4)it is less than 6 years old
5)the straps have never been completely submerged or washed with anything other than mild soap(it messes up the flame retardent treatment)
Otherwise, the seat is not safe to use. Good luck! Oh, and there are seats that have 5" slots, Safety1st Onboard/Eddie Bauer Surefit, and Evenflo Embrace.
